Purpose Statement
This portfolio traces my journey from being a strong teacher-centered person to becoming a more effective educator through the implementation of more student-centered instructional strategies.
Self Portrait
A young woman who has a passion for equipping and empowering young people with the necessary tools and life skills that are essential for obtaining and sustaining success throughout life's journey. A graduate of the UWI St Augustine Campus in Computer Science and Mathematics in 2002. A secondary school teacher at Holy Faith Convent, Penal for approximately ten years. A teacher of Mathematics, Information Technology, Computer Science and Ethics. A co-sponsor of the school's Abstinence Club "Passion for Purity". A member of the school's ICT committee; Database Management Team and Crisis Management Team. The school's culture is similar to that of the primary and secondary schools that I attended.
A simple person who appreciates nature and loves spending quiet moments reflecting on the faithfulness of God. A servant leader who believes that people are more important than programmmes. When asked what is the most important thing in life, the response is always "Family". Times spent playing with my niece and nephew are precious and highly treasured. Most days end with having a cup of tea with my best friend, my husband whom I have been married to for just over three years.
Similar to any seed which must first die before life could come forth, it was very painful to admit that what I was doing for the past ten years although it was successful to some extent needed to be drastically transformed for me to be effective in the 21st Century classroom. As a teachable person I attentively listened to the lectures from which I received a plethora of information. I keenly observed my tutor who demonstrated the various strategies discussed in lectures through the effective implementation of the same in our Curriculum class. The success of those strategies in bringing about learning for me as a DipEd student convinced me to imitate the model I experienced with the expectations of attaining similar results with my students.
