Curriculum Integration
Information Technology lends itself to curriculum integration. An integrated curriculum supports the use of real-world scenarios and applications and allows the student the opportunity to demonstrate and enhance their problem-solving skills. It makes learning more relevant to the students and more meaningful. It provides a context for the students and helps them to better retain information. The following lesson plans show the integration of three different subject areas namely Biology, English A and Mathematics
Biology
The test for starch was performed with a Form Five class as the set induction to the lesson pertaining to the importance of testing in the Unit on Program Implementation.
This provided students the opportunity to discover that it is important to perform tests with data that is correct as well as invalid data to determine whether the program is doing what it is expected to do. It also gave students the opportunity to compare the format for writing up a lab with the steps in problem solving to identify similarities It was effective in highlighting to students the importance of problem-solving skills not only in IT but in other subjects as well. ![]()

English A
This lesson was taught to a Form One class as part of the Unit on Word Processing. The format and content required when writing a letter to the editor was taught and the students used appropriate editing and formatting features in the preparation of a letter to the editor. The content of the letter was on cyber bullying, thereby incorporating HFLE into the lesson as well.
This lesson provided the students with the opportunity to see the use of a Word Processor as a valuable application for common everyday tasks. ![]()

Mathematics
At the Form Two level the Unit on Data Representation necessitated the teaching of the number system. Students had to have a thorough understanding of the number system in order to explain the conversion from binary to decimal and vice-versa. Students were also taught how to determine the number of subsets in a set.
